IRONMAN candy...

We went to a movie today to go see Ironman. Loved it. Kept my attention the whole movie and was worth seeing on the big screen. We don't go to the movie's that often so it was fun. So we stopped at Wal mart on the way to the movie so we can sneak in our pop's and candy like we always do. Wal mart has a really good section now of sugar free candy, they got all kinds of different stuff. So I got sugar free Russell's Stovers toffee squares for myself and a small bag of sugar free twizzlers. I ate 2 small squares of toffee chocolate and 4 twizzlers during the movie. Even being sugar free it went right through me. What they call dumping. No shakes this time, no feeling weak like I have when I've ate too much sugars in the past. But right to the potty- I'd say 5 times now. Jeez. OK can anyone tell me what sugar alcohol is?? The 2 candy's had a total of 14g of sugar alcohol in it. Am I correct in thinking it's sugar substitute? I may have just learned I react to sugar substitute as well when over consumed. I had a small bowl of cereal with soy milk this morning and we headed into the early movie. 1. got a sugar free soy coffee on the way. 2. Ate 2 small pieces of sugar free candy during the movie. 3. I ate 3-4 pieces of sugar free twizzlers. I'm thinking I consumed to much fake sugar in 3 hours and my body reacted the same without the shakes, and the weak feeling. I remember learning the body process sugar substitutes the same as real sugar. The body thinks of it as the same I believe. It generally will only cause a small rise in blood glucose levels. Anyone know?? Or thoughts??? So I had not a lot of food in my body and it was early in the day and then I added to much fake sugar into it. Not a lot of quantity, a lot of sugar substitute. I didn't care about going to the movie and having or not having any candy. I just wanted my coffee with the movie. :) Not thinking I had a SF coffee in the car, at Wal mart I got me a small bag of SF candy. Good for me cause I did not eat it all but I still reacted. I don't feel deprived with just have a bit of candy now, it's so different since surgery. 2 pieces and I am full and done. Kind of freeing in a way. I love it.

I want to know what you take to the movies now for a snack? What is you favorite thing to munch on now? I want some thoughts for a good snack while at the movies. I'm thinking sneak apples from home now instead of heading into the store for candy. Old habits

What's your thoughts? This ever happened to any of you?

Anyway the movie was good! Go see it! And by the way the sugar free twizzlers are good too! :) Tastes the same.

By George I think I've learned something... LOL

I still haven't ate today except for cereal and soy milk, coffee, twizzlers. Gosh, my DR would be so proud. LOL Not a real healthy day food wise or enough food for the body. Cooking dinner now. Can you smell it. Mmm that's chicken fajitas you smell. Gotta go eat some real food...

I did the real deal. I ate a hostess cupcake, seriously what the heck was I thinking. I was so sick I actually stuck my fingers down my throat to make myself puke. I was miserable, cramps, just totally horrible and all for a stupid chocolate cupcake. Now why did I do something so freaking stupid? That saying, Old Habits Die Hard, so so true. Hope your fajitas were good. Sounds yummy!

Sugar alcohols (the fake sugars) naturally have a laxative effect whether you are a gastric bypass patient or not.

My husband (who has not had surgery) found that out one time after eating a bunch of his dad's diabetic chocolates.

I react that way to too much sugar alcohol and too much fat. I don't get the shakes or the sweating, just straight to diarrhea. Not much fun. If I eat sugar alcohol in moderation, I don't have any issues.

I think you may have flooded your system, like you said.

I know a lot of gastric bypass folks who have a hard time tolerating the fake sugar. Maybe in very small doses you'd be ok?

I tried the sugar free twizzlers too, and they are fabulous! But for me, I just miss popcorn at the movies. :(
